NATIONAL CITY, CA - Sailors from Precommissioning Detachment (PCD) San Diego (LPD 22) volunteered to clean up the community during the annual Main Street Clean-up June 11, 2011.
Thirty-five San Diego crew and family members spent their Saturday morning collecting trash along several streets surrounding Naval Base San Diego, primarily Main Street and Boston Avenue.
“It was good to see such a turn out from our command,” said Enginemen 1st Class (SW/AW/SCW) Carol Winkler, from Ganado, Texas. “You could tell the community needed the help to clean-up, so it felt good to volunteer.”
The Main Street Clean-up is in its 16th consecutive year and gathers participants from several San Diego-area commands to support the community surrounding the base.
Precommissioning Unit (PCU) San Diego, currently completing construction in Pascagoula, Miss., is the fourth ship named for the city and the sixth ship in the San Antonio class. PCU San Diego is scheduled for commissioning in its namesake city in the spring of 2012.
