Master Chief Honea enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1987 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego, California. Upon completion of his training, he reported to USS JOHN A MOORE (FFG 19). Subsequently he served onboard USS JUNEAU (LPD 10), USS DUBUQUE (LPD 8), USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) and USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101). His shore assignments include Navy Reserve Readiness Command Oklahoma City, OK, U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD and Commander Naval Region Southwest, San Diego, CA. He also completed an IA assignment as Command Master Chief, U.S. Navy Embedded Training Teams, Combined Joint Task Force PHOENIX, deployed to Afghanistan. Currently serving as Command Master Chief, USS NEW ORLEANS (LPD 18). His personal awards include Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and numerous unit and campaign awards.
Master Chief Honea is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and Command Master Chief Course.
