SAN YSIDRO, Calif. – (Sept. 14, 2010) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Luis B. Calle of USS Makin Island’s Air Department charges through a crowd of San Ysidro Middle School cheerleaders during a sprit week welcoming ceremony. Makin Island is participating in Partners in Excellence (PIE) program with local area schools. PIE is a non-profit organization consisting of education partners focused on ensuring all students leave school with the academic, technical, and employability skills necessary to be successful in the workplace.
