USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Successfully Completes INSURV 
 

SAN DIEGO, (October 28, 2010) -- Sailors from USS Makin Island (LHD 8) engineering department conduct a dead bus recovery check with inspectors from the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) aboard the ship’s central control station. Makin Island successfully completed a four-day special trials inspection Oct. 29, becoming the Navy’s first operational electric-hybrid amphibious assault ship.
