NC1(SW/AW) Jason P. Duque
Native of San Diego, CA, Petty Officer Duque is a second generation Navy Sailor. He enlisted in July 2000 after graduating from Bonita Vista High School in Chula Vista, CA. He completed Basic Training in October 2000 and went on to attend Seaman Apprenticeship Training in Great Lakes, IL.
In November 2000, he reported to USS FITZGERALD (DDG-62) in Pearl Harbor, HI as a Deck Seaman. At that time, USS FITZGERALD was deploying to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation South Watch. SA Duque was actively involved in Mission essential boat deck evolution in direct support of Maritime Interception Operations. In addition, he assisted in over 100 rigid hull inflatable boat launches and recoveries, as well as numerous equipment and personnel transfers, in which he received a FLOC from, VADM Moore, Commander Fifth Fleet. In March 2003, USS FITZGERALD was deployed again to the Arabian Gulf with the Nimitz Battle Group in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. In addition to his demanding duties; he attained his ESWS designation and was prompted to PN3.
In July 2004, he was transferred to Naval Special Warfare Group ONE Logistics Support Unit at NAB Coronado, CA where he was prompted to PN2 and was Selected as JSOQ 3rd Quarter 2005. PN2 provided support to a crew of 360 Sailors and Seabees within 7 UIC’s. In May 2005, he was hand selected to be the Command Career Counselor and Education Services Officer . He completed the Career Information Program Advisor course in September 2005.
He was selected for pre-commissioning duty with MAKIN ISLAND (LHD 8) in July 2007, where he was promoted to First Class Petty Officer and attained his EAWS designation. Soon thereafter he was appointed as the Executive Department LPO and ESWS Coordinator. He excelled in each role, garnishing 1 selection as SOQ and selection as Makin Island’s 2011 SOY. NC1 Duque’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (fourth award), the Navy Good Conduct Medal (third award) and various service and campaign awards.
