Retirement and Change of Command Ceremory Onboard USS Makin Island 
 
SAN DIEGO (December 4, 2010)  Cmdr. Pat Charles and Capt. Charles Sharkey, former commanding officer of Navy Reserve Expeditionary Strike Group Three (ESG 3), cut a cake following a retirement and change of command ceremony on board USS Makin Island (LHD 8). During the joint ceremony, Charles retired from 21 years of active duty and reserve naval service, and Sharkey was relieved as commanding officer of Navy Reserve ESG 3 by Capt. David O’Dea.
