The San Diego Chapter of the National Naval Officers Association and Makin Island Sailors visit Oak Park Elementary

National Naval Officers Association San Diego Chapter and Sailors from MAKIN ISLAND attend Oak Park Elementary & Music Conservatory Promotion 
San Diego, Ca. – The San Diego Chapter of the National Naval Officers Association (SDNNOA) and Sailors from USS Makin Island attended the fifth grade promotion ceremony at Oak Park Elementary, held 11 June.

Capt Cedric Pringle, USS Makin Island Commanding Officer was the guest speaker for the event. During his remarks, he challenged the students to “stay in school, stay fit and stay out of trouble”.

Sailors from Makin Island presented the school with an oversized photo of the students onboard the flight deck that was taken during a ship tour last week.

In closing, Oak Park Principle, Reashon Villery, spoke to the students about their bright future and thanked NNOA and the Sailors for their participation in the event.

For the past school year, NNOA and Makin Island have partnered with the elementary school for events that have included academic mentoring, community service projects, and ship tours for the students.
