USS Makin Island Magnetic Signature Deperming 
 
 SAN DIEGO (May 9, 2011) - USS Makin Island begins deperming at Naval Station Point Loma. The purpose of deperming is to reduce the ship's magnetic signature and LHD 8 is the largest ship to undergo this process in San Diego.
