PACIFIC OCEAN - Midshipmen form the number eight on the flight deck of USS Makin Island (LHD 8) as USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) comes alongside the ship July 14. Midshipmen from around the country are onboard Makin Island for Cortramid, a summer training program that introduces midshipmen to life in the fleet. During their training, midshipmen were given the opportunity to observe the first time a warship has come alongside Makin Island.
