|CAPT David Oden
Captain David Oden is a native of Fortville, Indiana, and attended Ball State University. He enlisted in the Navy in 1993 as an Aviation Ordnanceman. While attached to VFA-15 Valions in Cecil Field, Florida, he received a direct commission through Officer Candidate School graduating in June 1995.
His sea tours include USS FORT FISHER (LSD-40), where he served as Electrical and Auxiliary Division Officer and finished as 2nd Deck Division Officer. In March 1998, Captain Oden reported aboard USS MILIUS (DDG-69) where he served as the Fire Control Officer. In May 2004, Captain Oden reported aboard USS CHOSIN (CG-65) as the Weapons Officer and completed that tour as the Combat System Officer. His most recent sea tour was serving as Executive and Commanding Officer of USS BENFOLD (DDG-65).
Captain Oden’s tours ashore include a two-year Company Officer tour at the United States Naval Academy where he completed his Masters in Leadership. In April 2007, he reported to the United States Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) in Norfolk, Virginia, as the Joint Data Integration Branch Chief and finished his tour as the Data Services and Strategy Branch Chief. He completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME II) at the Joint Forces Staff College while at JFCOM. In 2013, he graduated from the Naval War College with a Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies. Most recently, Captain Oden served as the Executive Assistant in the standup of the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center in San Diego.
Captain Oden reported to USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD-8) in July 2016 as Executive Officer and assumed duties as Commanding Officer on November 9, 2017.
