120416-N-JO908-058 RED SEA (April 16, 2012) - An aircraft handler signals to an AH-1Z Cobra helicopter assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 268 (Reinforced) as it takes off from the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Makin Island and embarked Marines assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (11th MEU) is deployed supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
