USS Bonhomme Richard Earns Battle "E"
NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN – Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific awarded the 2012 Battle Efficiency (Battle “E”) to the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) in a message released March 8.

The Battle “E” and Command Excellence Awards recognize sustained superior performance in an operational environment, as well as sustained continuous readiness throughout the Fleet Readiness Training Plan cycle.

“This is vindication for the arduous work it takes to keep a ship ready and capable in the forward deployed naval fleet,” said Capt. Daniel Dusek, commanding officer. “The dedication and professionalism our Sailors have shown in all aspects of operational and training evolutions has been validated by this acknowledgment.”

Eligibility for the Battle “E” demand day-to-day demonstrated excellence in addition to superior achievement during certifications and qualifications conducted throughout the one year competitive period.

Ships must be competitive in five categories, maritime warfare, engineering/survivability, command and control communications and information, logistics management and ship safety.

“We strive to execute the basics flawlessly every day and in every task,” said Capt. Joey Tynch, executive officer. “We set goals, perform operational risk management, pay attention to detail and look after one another while working as a team. We are proud to have earned this Battle ‘E.’”

This award marks the 6th Battle “E” Bonhomme Richard has earned since her commissioning Aug. 15, 1998. Bonhomme Richard’s prior awards include, six Maritime Warfare Excellence Awards, six Engineering / Survivability Excellence Awards, two Command and Control Communications and Information Warfare Excellence Awards, nine Logistics Management Excellence Awards and seven Ship Safety Excellence Awards.

Bonhomme Richard is the lead ship in the only forward-deployed amphibious ready group and is currently on deployment in the U. S. 7th fleet area of operations.
