Master Chief Verschueren is a native of Fountain Valley, California and graduated from Fountain Valley High School in 1983. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1986. After completion of Fire Controlman "A" and "C" schools in August of 1987, he was assigned to his first ship, USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) home ported in Norfolk, Virginia.
In June 1990, Master Chief Verschueren departed for Fire Controlman "C" school and was later assigned to the USS Roark (FF 1053) home ported in Treasure Island, Calif. Master Chief Verschueren decommissioned USS Roark in December 1991, and headed for AN/SPS 48E Radar "C" school in Mare Island, California with follow on orders to USS Arkansas (CGN 41) home ported in Alameda, California. In August 1994, Master Chief Verschueren finally has his first chance at shore duty when he reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Francisco. During his tour of recruiting he achieved Recruiter of the Year for FY96 and Recruiter -in-Charge of the Year FY97.
Master Chief Verschueren left NRD San Francisco in November 1997 and reported for duty aboard USS Boxer (LHD 4) home ported in San Diego , California . During his tour he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and also qualified as Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. Following his tour onboard USS Boxer, Master Chief Verschueren reported for duty at NRD San Diego in March 2001. During his tour of recruiting he was advanced
to both Senior and Master Chief Petty Officer in addition to qualifying as a Zone Supervisor. In June 2004, Master Chief Verschueren was assigned to the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as the C5I Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. It was during this tour that he applied for the Command Master Chief program while performing interim CMC duties in the absence of the CMC during a six month deployment.
He has served as the Command Master Chief for USS McCampbell (DDG 85) from April 06 to July 07 and due to a hull swap, served as the Command Master Chief of USS Gary (FFG 51) from July 07 to March 08. USS Gary was awarded the Pacific Fleet Command Retention Excellence award during his tour. He is presently serving as Command Master Chief aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD6).
His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy Achievement Medal (five awards), Good Conduct Medal (six awards) and various other campaign awards.
