A native of Aberdeen, Washington, Master Chief Petty Officer Gruchalla graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1986 and enlisted in the Navy and graduated boot camp in San Diego, California in 1987.
At sea, his tours include USS CAPE COD (AD 43), Commander Destroyer Squadron Five embarked onboard KITTY HAWK (CV 63), RENTZ (FFG 46), COMPHIBRON THREE embarked onboard BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6), USNS SPICA (T-AFS 9), USNS CONCORD (T-AFS 5), and GERMANTOWN (LSD 42).
Ashore his tours include duty at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois as a Recruit Division Commander and Naval Telecommunications Station Guam where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader.
Master Chief Petty Officer Gruchalla is a graduate of the United States Senior Enlisted Academy Class 145 and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course class 61. His Command Master Chief assignments include USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61) and USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52). He reported to USS BOXER as Command Master Chief in November 2012.
Master Chief Gruchalla’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (five awards) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), as well as various unit and campaign awards.
