Command Master Chief (September 2011 - December 2011)

Master Chief Martin J. Ruane, a native of Chicago, Illinois, enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program in September 1987. He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego, California in November 1988 and reported to Naval Training Center, San Diego, California where he completed Radioman “A” School.

Upon graduation, he reported to USS DUBUQUE (LPD 8) in Sasebo, Japan. Other fleet assignments include, USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42), USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD 49) and USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19). In addition, Master Chief Ruane completed shore duty assignments at NAVCOMTELSTA Far East Detachment Sasebo, Japan, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific in Wahiawa, Hawaii, and Afloat Training Group, Middle Pacific, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Master Chief Ruane is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 146 (Grey), and is currently assigned to USS ESSEX (LHD 2) in Sasebo, Japan. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Information Technology Management and has earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare, Aviation Warfare, Master Training Specialist, and Afloat Training Specialist designations.

His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
