USS Essex Returns to Sasebo 
 
SASEBO, Japan - Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) Airman Chris Pierce mans the rails as the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) pulls into Fleet Activities Sasebo. Essex is returning to Sasebo after completing a three-month patrol of the western Pacific Ocean, which included disaster relief operations in Japan.
