Command Master Chief
CMDCM Pedro NMN. Santos enlisted in the United States Navy in August 1987. He completed Basic training in San Diego, Ca. His first duty station was USS WISCONSIN (BB-64) in Norfolk, Va., where he was assigned as a member of 5th Division. He then transferred to USS MISSOURI (BB-63) homeported out of Long Beach, Ca., and was assigned as a member of 3rd Division. Here, he achieved the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. His next assignment was NAS Sigonella, Sicily, where he was assigned to Security Department and promoted to Petty Officer Second Class.
His next assignment was Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit EIGHT, NAS Sigonella, Sicily. There, he garnered the rank of First Class Petty Officer and held various assignments such as Leading Petty Officer Maintenance Division and Command 3-M Coordinator. He then transferred to Readiness Reserve Center, Alameda, Ca., as Leading Petty Officer Training and Manpower Department. In September 2000, he transferred to USS ELLIOT (DD 967) as Deck Division LPO. While there, he completed cruises in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom and then transferred to USS CORONADO (AGF-11). While onboard CORONADO, he was selected for Chief Petty Officer (CPO). In 2003, he was assigned to USS HIGGINS (DDG-76) as Deck Leading Chief Petty Officer, completed several deployments and was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer. He reported aboard USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD-52) in 2006 as Deck Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. In October 2008, he reported to USS CLEVELAND (LPD-7) as Department Leading Chief Petty Officer, where he was selected for Master Chief Petty Officer. One year later, while assigned to USS BOXER (LHD-4) as Deck Department Leading Chief Petty Officer, he was selected into the Command Master Chief program.
CMDCM Santos is a graduate of the March 2008 Senior Enlisted Academy Non-Residence Course and CMC/COB (Class 73). Command Master Chief Santos has served as the CMDCM for USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG-71) and USS ANCHORAGE (LPD-23). He is currently serving as CMDCM for USS ESSEX (LHD 2), homeported out of San Diego, Ca.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (5 awards), Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), and numerous campaign, personal, and unit citations.
