ADAM  AIMD  AWAZ

The Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) supports the embarked airwing and provides inter-ship assistance as required. Support consists of calibration, off equipment repair and/or replacement of damaged components or assemblies, manufacture of non-available parts, and performance of specialized inspections on equipment and fluids. Rates: AD, AM, AS, AT, AZ, PR

AB  AIR  AB

The Air Department is responsible for the execution of flight operations that support Peleliu's primary mission of landing elements of a Marine landing force in amphibious assault operations. Comprised mostly of Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Fuels) and Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handler) personnel, Air Department is the second largest department on the ship. Rates: ABF, ABH

RP  CHAPLAIN  RP

The Chaplain Department is repsonsible for mission ready Sailors & Marines, and their families, demonstrating spiritual, moral and ethical maturity supported by the innovative delivery of religious ministry and compassionate pastoral care. Rates: RP

Marines   COMBAT CARGO   Marines

Combat Cargo is responsible for embarking and debarking U.S. Marines from ship to shore by landing craft and helicopter. They maintain all the ship's Marine spaces and serve as the Commanding Officer's special advisors on all Marine issues.

ETFC COMBAT SYSTEMS ITIC

The Combat Systems Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of command, control and communications systems, sensors, weapons and ship systems in support of amphibious and sea control missions. In essence, CS is responsible for ensuring the ship can fight and defend itself when called upon to do so. Rates: ET, FC, IC, IT

BM  DECK   BM

Underway, Deck Department becomes the point of entry and departure for all surface operations. Delivering our most fearsome weapon, a Marine, Deck Department launches tanks, cargo and equipment via the ship's well deck. Rates: BM

DCEN  ENGINEERING   HTMM

The Engineering Department is composed of the Damage Controlmen, Electrician's Mates, Enginemen, Hull Maintenance Technicians, Machinery Repairmen and Machinist Mates. Engineering is responsible for the ship's propulsion plant as well as providing water for the crew and embarked Marines. Engineering also produces all the ship's electricity, maintains and operates the air conditioning and refrigeration plants, and maintains the ship's laundry facilities and galley equipment. Engineering is also responsible for firefighting and damage control efforts on. Rates: DC, EM, EN, HT, MM

NC  EXECUTIVE   YN

The Executive Department is responsible for providing administrative support, legal assistance, security and crew safety, personnel and career counseling services, print shop services and Religious Ministry services. Rates: LN, NC, MC, YN

HM  MEDICAL  HM

The Medical Department provides primary health care and emergency capabilities to the ships crew and embarked troops. Consisting of more than 600 beds, 6 operating rooms, and a host of other support facilities, Peleliu has the most extensive medical support capability of any combatant in the world. The Dental Department provides primary dental care and emergency capabilities to the ships crew and embarked troops. Consisting of three treatmentrooms, Peleliu has the most extensive dental support capability of any combatant in the world. Rates: HM

QM  NAVIGATION   QM

The Navigation Department is responsible for the safe and skillful navigation of the ship. They maintain Peleliu's library of nautical charts and navigation publications and are the custodians of the ship's log. They steer the ship, take visual and radar bearings and ranges, make depth sounding and celestial observation, and plot the ship's course, speed and position. Additionally, Navigation is responsible for the signaling of all visual communications. Rates: QM

ACCT   OPERATIONS   ISOS

Operations Department provides the interface between the ship and its operational environment. Performing Combat Information Center operations, intelligence collection and dissemination, air traffic control, public affairs and shipboard television programming, meteorological and oceanographic forecasting, and cryptologic operations. Rates: AG, AC, CT, IS, OS

MA  SECURITY   MA

The responsibility to maintain good order onboard Peleliu relies on the efforts of our Security department.Rates: MA

CSPS  SUPPLY   SHSK

Service to the Fleet and Ready for Sea -- The Supply Department's goal is to live up to these time tested mottos by providing beans, bullets, and black oil. To do this, a large deck Supply Department is organized with two sides. A 'happy' Sailor needs the comforts the 'service' side provides, but must have the 'readiness' support to keep gear up so the job can get done. Rates: CS, PS, SH, SK

AO  WEAPONS   GM

Weapons Department is responsible for the stowage, maintenance, accountability, and safe handling of all ordnance, from bullets to bombs. Rates: AO, GM
