USS PELELIU, At Sea - Three Sailors from Supply Department's S-2 Division re-enlisted together, Sept. 30, and received benefits through the Selective Reenlistment Bonus (SRB) aboard amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5).

Peleliu's Supply Officer, Cmdr. Robert DeGuzman and Chief Culinary Specialist Jason Kugler conducted the re-enlistment ceremony for Culinary Specialists 3rd Class Erinn Salazar, Marl Luigi Gonzales and John Estes who each reenlisted for four years.

"I took this opportunity to re-enlist to continue to support my family and save more money," said Gonzales.
The reenlistment ceremony was significant in that it was the first SRB Peleliu hosted since September 2008.

"This was a great surprise for me," said Estes. "I wasn't expecting a bonus at all and this made my day."

The ceremony was held on the mess decks and witnessed by fellow Sailors. The main attraction to the ceremony was the "Giant Check" presented to the re-enlistees that totaled more than $23,000.

"It's not very often that Supply rates, especially CS, get an SRB," said DeGuzman. "I'm very happy that Big Navy is taking care of our guys. They are the first ones to come in to work in the morning and the last ones to leave every night."

The SRB program is a monetary incentive paid to enlisted members to encourage reenlistments and retention in critical military skills to sustain the career force in those skills.
