ARABIAN SEA - Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Aaron Shorts pipes "Mess Call" into the ship’s public address system using his boatswain's pipe call from the pilothouse of amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5). The high pitch of the boatswain’s pipe is more audible than the voice at sea, and has been historically used to relay commands to ships’ crews. Peleliu is the command ship of Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. The ship is supporting Pakistani government and military disaster relief operations in Pakistan.
