Executive Officer (June 2012 - March 2014)
CDR Steingold was commissioned in May 1992, graduating from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelors of Science Degree in History (Dean’s List). Awaiting his flight school, he served on board HMT-204, a Marine Corps CH-46E training squadron at MCAS New River, North Carolina. In May 1994, he earned his Naval Flight Officer (NFO) Wings of Gold upon completing flight training in Pensacola, Florida and San Antonio, Texas.
Following training at VP-30, the P-3 Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) in NAS Jacksonville, Florida, CDR Steingold reported to NAS Brunswick, Maine, joining VP-8 in November 1994. He served as Legal Officer, NFO Tactics and NFO NATOPS Officer while assigned to the FIGHTING TIGERS. During his tour he completed two six-month deployments to Sigonella, Italy, and participated in Operations SHARP GUARD and DELIBERATE GUARD in support of NATO and, was a proud recipient of the COMPATWING FIVE Crew of the Quarter Award.
In August 1998, CDR Steingold reported to Virginia Tech Naval ROTC Unit as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science, serving as Sophomore Advisor and Summer Cruise Coordinator for over one-hundred Midshipmen. He taught two semesters (Leadership & Management and Naval History) before pursuing his next set of sea duty orders.
He reported aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) based in Norfolk, Virginia, as a Catapult & Arresting Gear Officer in September 1999, completing a deployment to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH. He held the duties of Waist Catapult Branch and V-1 Division Officer until September 2001. During this tour, he earned his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I diploma via the U.S. Army’s Command & General Staff Officer’s College correspondence course.
In October 2001, CDR Steingold commenced a pre-department head tour with VP-30 and was designated an FRS NFO Instructor. He also qualified as an Orion Weapons & Tactics Instructor (WTI) and, he served as Aircraft Division Officer and Weapons & Tactics Unit (WTU) Fleet Training Division Officer. He reported once again to NAS Brunswick, Maine, in November 2003, joining VP-26 in a Department Head role where he served as Safety/NATOPS, Administrative Officer, Training Officer and Operations Officer. During this his tour he made two deployments to Sigonella, Italy and Bahrain in support of Operations DELIBERATE FORGE/JOINT GUARDIAN, ACTIVE ENDEAVOR, ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
In March 2006, CDR Steingold was assigned to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Financial Management and Comptroller, as a Line Analyst responsible for Aviation Procurement, Other Procurement (Navy), and Research, Development, Test & Evaluation budgets. In August 2007, he transferred to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, serving as Deputy of Resources & Acquisition Management for Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Directorate (J-8).
In October 2009, he reported to VXS-1 as Executive Officer and, in January 2010, became the fifth Commanding Officer of FLTSCIDEVRON ONE. During his tour with TEAM WARLOCK, the command performed detachments spanning the globe in support of airborne Science & Technology research, including major detachments to the USAFRICOM, USPACOM, and USCENTCOM AORs. On 4 June 2012, CDR Steingold assumed the duties as Executive Officer of USS PELELIU (LHA-5).
CDR Steingold’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and campaign operations ribbons and medals.
Peleliu Sailors Re-enlist Underway, Receive Bonus
