USS Jackson (LCS 6) will be the first ship to be named for the city of Jackson.  She is the third ship of the Independence-class variant and is expected to be delivered in early 2015. 

Jackson is the capital of the State of Mississippi. Located south of the Yazoo River, it is considered to be the southern border of the Mississippi Delta. Jackson is the most populous city in Mississippi.

Jackson, Mississippi, the namesake of LCS 6, was named for General Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, in recognition of his victory in the Battle of New Orleans.
