A native of Dana Point, California, CDR Kochendorfer graduated with merit from the United States Naval Academy in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
On USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54) he served as Damage Control Assistant, where he performed a homeport shift from San Diego, CA to Yokosuka, Japan and completed two WESTPAC deployments. He also served as Engineer Officer in USS STETHEM (DDG 63) and COMDESRON TWENTY ONE Material Officer, completing another WESTPAC deployment with the JOHN C STENNIS Strike Group. STETHEM successfully served as the surface force Tactical Tomahawk test platform during his tour. COMDESRON TWENTY ONE was designated as the ASW-Innovative Sea Combat Commander, and the STENNIS Strike Group successfully proofed numerous new USW combat systems. CDR Kochendorfer’s most recent sea duty was as Executive Officer in USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53), where he served for 26 months and completed three deployments, an INSURV Material Inspection, and an emergent drydock Selected Restricted Availability.
CDR Kochendorfer’s shore duty includes a tour as the Littoral Warfare Officer at Commander, Marine Forces Pacific in Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii and Damage Control instructor duty at Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, Rhode Island. He earned a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
He most recently served as the COMNAVSURFPAC Assistant Chief of Staff for Readiness Assessment and Innovation (N40) and Surface Warfare Enterprise Executive Assistant. CDR Kochendorfer will be the commissioning Commanding Officer of USS CORONADO (LCS-4) Blue Crew.
