120424-N-ZS026-437 MANZANILLO, Mexico (April 24, 2012) - Sideboys salute Mexican navy Adm. Jaime Mejia Michel, commander of the 6th Naval Region, as he is welcomed aboard the littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2). Independence hosted Mexican dignitaries at a reception on the flight deck of the ship while in Manzanillo, Mexico, marking the ship's first foreign port visit since its commissioning in 2010. Manzanillo is home to the Mexican navy's Pacific Naval Force and 6th Naval Region. The Independence Gold Crew and embarked Mine Countermeasures Detachment 1 are en route to the ship's homeport in San Diego.
