Commander Jeremy Gray is from Chesapeake, VA. He attended the United States Naval Academy, earning a commission in 1996.
Following graduation from Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI, he reported to the USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) in April 1997 as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, deploying to the Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Arabian Gulf from June-Dec 1998. In May 1999, he transferred to USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) and served as Assistant Damage Control Assistant for eighteen months during a Refueling Complex Overhaul in Newport News, VA. He reported to USS MILIUS (DDG 69) in Mar 2004 as Operations Officer. During this tour, he served as Air Warfare Syndicate Leader while MILIUS performed duties as Air Defense Commander for Expeditionary Strike Group Five’s deployment to the Arabian Gulf, and participated in tsunami relief efforts in Indonesia. In June 2005, he reported to USS SHILOH (CG 67) as Operations Officer, participating in Ballistic Missile Defense Exercise “Stellar Predator”. He then transferred to USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) as Operations Officer in conjunction with SHILOH’s September 2006 hull swap to Seventh Fleet.
Ashore, Commander Gray attended the Naval Postgraduate School during from December 2000 to March 2003. In January 2007, he reported to OPNAV N81G, Sea Shaping Division as an Operations Analyst and completed assessments in the areas of Green Water craft, Irregular Warfare, Navy Expeditionary Force Structure, and future Navy Force Structure Analysis. In April 2009, he reported to SOCEUR J4 as a planner in the Logistics Operations and Plans Division. He has participated as a planner in three JACKAL STONE exercises and served as the ISAF SOF CJ4 Director in Kabul, Afghanistan from April to August 2010.
Commander Gray holds a Bachelors of Science in Naval Architecture from United States Naval Academy and a Masters of Arts in Nation Security Affairs (Russia and Eastern Europe) from the Naval Post Graduate School.
In September of 2012, he reported as Executive Officer to USS INDEPENDENCE (LCS 2), Gold Crew.
Commander Gray’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards).
