A native of Ravenna Ohio, Commander Matt Scarlett earned his commission in 1998 through Officer Candidate School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Ohio State University and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, graduating with highest distinction.

CDR Scarlett’s sea tours were on USS Detroit (AOE 4) in Earle, New Jersey, where he served as Auxiliaries Officer; Assistant Operations Officer on USS Cowpens (CG 63), in Yokosuka, Japan; Engineer Officer on MCM Crew Fearless in Ingleside Texas; Commanding Officer on Patrol Coastal Crew Charlie; and Flag Secretary for Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet. He is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of LCS Crew 206.

Ashore he served as cargo officer at Military Sealift Command Europe, in Naples, Italy. His most recent shore tour was as the Far East Maritime Intelligence Analyst at the Ministry of Defence, London, UK.

His personal awards include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medals, and Navy Achievement Medal.
