LCDR Brian Ribota hails from Tracy, CA where he joined the Navy on 16 September 1991. Following Basic Submarine School and Machinist Mate “A” school, he reported to USS TUNNY (SSN 682) in July 1992 as a member of Auxiliary Division until her decommissioning in May 1998.
In 1998, LCDR Ribota was selected for the Seaman to Admiral Program and Commissioned in Pensacola Florida at Officer Candidate School. Upon completion of Surface Warfare Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, RI he reported aboard USS JOHN S. MCCAIN DDG-56 as Ordnance Officer from July 1999 until April 2001. After completing his first tour aboard the JOHN S. MCCAIN he reported to USS KINGFISHER MHC-56 as Chief Engineer from July 2001 until April 2003.
Upon completion of his division officer tours he attended San Diego State University and graduated in 2005, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
After attending Department Head School and AEGIS Combat Systems Officer training, he reported aboard JOHN S. MCCAIN DDG-56 where he served as the Chief Engineer. His second Department Head tour was aboard Pre-Commissioning Unit STOCKDALE DDG-106 where he served as the Combat Systems Officer.
Following his Department Head tours, LCDR Ribota attended the U.S. Naval War College where he received his Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. He then transferred to BUPERS-3 in Millington, TN where he served as the Surface Enlisted Community Manager.
His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), as well as various personal awards, campaign and service decorations.
