|Commander Adam J. Welter
Commanding Officer (June 2009 - June 2011)
CDR Welter graduated from Seattle Pacific University and received his commission from the NROTC Unit, University of Washington in 1992.
His first tour of duty was aboard USS CORONADO (AGF 11), where he served as Boilers Officer and later as Combat Information Center Officer. In October 1996, CDR Welter reported to USS ARKANSAS (CGN 41) as Navigator and Administration Officer. He departed USS ARKANSAS in July 1998 to obtain a Master’s Degree in Operations Logistics at the Naval Postgraduate School.
In February 2001, CDR Welter reported to USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG 57) and served as Operations Officer for eighteen months, followed by AEGIS training and assignment as Operations Officer aboard USS VINCENNES (CG 49), forward deployed to Japan. In June 2004, CDR Welter was selected to attend the Air Command and Staff College (ACSC). While assigned to ACSC, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Military Operational Art and Science with an emphasis in International Affairs and completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I).
In October 2005, CDR Welter reported to USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG 93) as Executive Officer. USS CHUNG-HOON deployed to the Western Pacific Ocean as Afloat Forward Staging Base in support of Joint Task Force 515 in 2006 and again deployed in 2007 to the Horn of Africa for counter-piracy operations and to the Northern Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following his tour in CHUNG-HOON, CDR Welter served as Surface Operations Office for Commander, Task Force SEVENTY (Carrier Strike Group FIVE), forward deployed to Japan in USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) and USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73).
CDR Welter’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
