USS Ford Changes Command

Everett, Wash. – On 2 October 2012, Cmdr. Joseph T. Shuler relieved Cmdr. Donald M. Foss as commanding officer of USS Ford (FFG 54)in a ceremony held Oct. 2.
Foss has served on board Ford since August 2009, first as executive officer until he took command April 2011. His next assignment is Director, Joint Inter-Agency Task Force in Key West, Fla. Foss, a native of Charleston, S. C., has had previous sea tours that included fire control officer aboard USS Cowpens (CG 63), operations officer aboard USS Shrike (MHC 62), and weapons officer and combat systems officer aboard USS Bulkeley (DDG 84).
Shuler, a native of Bellevue, Wash., served as Ford’s executive officer from March 2011 to September 2012. His previous sea tours include first lieutenant aboard USS Guardian (MCM 5), combat information center officer aboard USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53), and chief engineer aboard USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60).
Ford is an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate which has been in commissioned service since 1985.
