|CDR Jeffrey D. Sturm
A native of Byron Center, Michigan, CDR Sturm enlisted in the Navy as a nuclear-trained Electrician’s Mate in 1989. Selected for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1993, he earned a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1996 and was subsequently commissioned through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.
CDR Sturm has served at sea on a variety of ships, including as Fire Control Officer in USS FLETCHER (DD 992); Reactor Controls Division Officer in USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65); First Lieutenant in USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44); Reactor Training Assistant in USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74); and as Commanding Officer of PATROL COASTAL (PC) CREW HOTEL, deploying in USS CHINOOK (PC 9) in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
CDR Sturm’s most recent assignment was on the staff of the Director, Assessment Division, OPNAV N81 in Washington, D.C. as an OPNAV Liaison Officer for both the Joint Staff and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. CDR Sturm’s post-division officer shore assignment was as the Nuclear Engineering Officer Training Coordinator at the Surface Nuclear Propulsion Mobile Training Team in Norfolk, Virginia.
CDR Sturm holds an MBA from the College of William and Mary and an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), the Navy Good Conduct Medal (two awards), and various campaign and services awards. However, he is most proud of the 2006 BATTLE “E” award earned by PC CREW HOTEL as it represents the focused efforts of the entire crew.
