USS Gary Holds Change of Command Ceremony

San Diego, CA — Cmdr. Daniel J. Senesky was relieved by Cmdr. Christopher J. Budde during a Change of Command ceremony held onboard the USS Gary (FFG 51) Thursday, August 19th. The ceremony marked the end of a 23 month tour for Cmdr. Senesky aboard the Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate.

USS Gary hosted various distinguished visitors including Commander, Destroyer Squadron Seven, Capt. Peter Driscoll, Jr., USS Benfold Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Kevin Brand, USS Rentz Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Jeffrey A. Miller, and USS Howard Commanding Officer, Cmdr. William Switzer.

During the change of command ceremony, Cmdr. Senesky praised the efforts of the crew and their overall performance during his command, claiming,“this has been the most exciting and challenging two years of my life. The memories I’ll cherish the most, long after today’s ceremony is over, are the many moments where the crew was faced with extraordinary challenges, did everything that was asked of them and exceeded [my] expectations.”

Cmdr. Senesky’s command of USS Gary was marked by a strenuous training cycle which prepared USS Gary for a maiden independent operations deployment in the 4th Fleet Area of Responsibility.

Cmdr. Senesky departs to an assignment at CENTCOM in Tampa, Florida where he will work in the J3 shop.

Cmdr. Budde is reporting to USS Gary as Commanding Officer after serving as Chief of Staff Officer at Destroyer Squadron 21 in San Diego, California.
