Senior Chief Petty Officer
Senior Chief Petty Officer (SW/AW) Ruben Diaz Jr is a native of San Antonio, TX. After graduating from Bloomington High School in May 1996, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August of 1996. He reported to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes before completing the Operations Specialist "A" School in Damneck, Virginia.
In February 1997 he reported onboard the USS JOHN RODGERS (DD 983) Mayport, FL and was assigned to "OI" Division, Operations Department. The Spruance Class Destroyer decommissioned in September 1998.
In October 1998 he reported to his second tour MCMROTCREW DELTA Ingleside, TX were he deployed onboard USS WARRIOR (MCM 10), USS DEXTROUS (MCM 13) and USS CHIEF (MCM 14). He earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) qualification and was promoted to Second Class Petty Officer.
In September 2001 he reported to MCMRON ONE Ingleside, TX / Sasebo, JA and served as the mine countermeasures surface tactician for 2nd and 7th Fleet. He was promoted to First Class Petty Officer and cross rated to Mineman (MN).
In March 2005 he reported to the Mine Warfare Training Center (MWTC) as an instructor for "A" and "F" Schools where he earned his Master Training Specialist (MTS) qualification.
In April 2007 he reported to HELMINERON FIFTEEN Corpus Chrisi, TX and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. He served onboard as the Operations Department LCPO. While onboard he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS) qualification.
In November 2009 he reported to COMNAVPERSCOM Millington, TN as the MN detailer and was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer. He served as the PERS-406 Surface Combat Systems branch LCPO. During his tour he was selected into the Command Senior Chief (CSC) program. In April 2014 he completed the CMC?COB and Senior Enilisted Academy (SEA).
In April 2014 he reported onboard the USS GARY (FFG 51) assuming the duties as Command Senior Chief.
He has earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. His personal and unit awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Good Conduct Medal (five awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
