Vandegrift Hosts Ship Tours
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (August 9, 2013) - USS Vandegrift hosted two groups for shipboard tours on Thursday, August 8th. Fifteen members from Advocates for Youth got a chance to explore the vessel, and learn about opportunities the Navy can provide. The ship also hosted seventy members attached to Future Sailors Group who are awaiting their chance to go to recruit training. These prospective Sailors took the chance to ask several crew members questions about the ship's systems, life while underway, and in-rate best practices.

"Take this time to ask questions;" stated Cmdr. Luis Alva, Captain of USS Vandegrift. Cmdr. Alva came and spoke to the prospective Sailors before the beginning of their tours. The prospective Sailors came armed with questions which the Vandegrift proudly accommodated.

Boatswains Mate Second Class Tony Rossi was one of the many tour guides who volunteered to lead the tours around the ship, "I enjoyed explaining my rate to my future shipmates!"

USS Vandegrift is currently stationed at Naval Base San Diego and is currently in the basic phase of training.
