Lieutenant Commander Stephen Henz
Executive Officer

LCDR Henz is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in American History from The Ohio State University, and earned a commission through the NROTC program.

His sea tours include USS JARRETT (FFG 33) as the Damage Control Assistant, USS COMSTOCK (LSD 45) as the Main Propulsions Assistant, and two tours as an Engineering Officer, one onboard USS RUSSELL (DDG 59) and the other on USS HUE CITY (CG 66).

In between his division officer and department head tours LCDR Henz spent two years at COMUSNAVCENT/C5F as a Force Protection Action Officer for the Fifth Fleet area of operations. His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (three times), the Naval Achievement Medal, and various unit commendations.

Prior to assuming the duties of Executive Officer of USS Vandegrift, LCDR Henz served as the Korea plans and exercises officer on the Task Force 70 staff based in Yokosuka, Japan.
