LCDR Martin Robertson, originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, began his naval career in Dec 1988 when he enlisted as an Interior Communications Electrician. His enlisted tours of duty include: USS Wainwright (CG 28), USS Nicholas (FFG 47), and Surface Combat Systems Center.
Selected for commissioning via the Seaman to Admiral Program, he graduated Officer Candidate School in 1998. Upon completion of follow on training, he completed Division Officer tours as Assistant CIC and Strike Warfare Officer in USS Normandy (CG 60) and Chief Engineer in USS Pioneer (MCM 9).
LCDR Robertson then returned to shore duty at NROTC Unit Hampton Roads where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University graduating Summa Cum Laude, and received a diploma from the Air Command and Staff College for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I. Upon completion of Department Head School, he was assigned duties as Chief Engineer in USS Ross (DDG 71), and was then assigned to the Forward Deployed Naval Forces as Chief Engineer in USS COWPENS (CG 63) home ported in Yokosuka, Japan.
Following his department head tours, LCDR Robertson completed assignments ashore as an Action Officer at Allied Joint Forces Command Naples and as Fleet Watch Officer and Battle Watch Captain at U.S. Fleet Forces Command and U.S. Second Fleet. During this time, he completed a Master of Arts in Military Studies through the American Military University.
His personal awards include: the Joint Commendation Medal, five Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals, two Good Conduct Medals, the Wall Street Journal Award for Excellence in Business, Top Snipe and Distinguished Graduate Awards from Surface Warfare Officer School Command, and various unit and campaign awards.
