|CDR Michael F. Davis
Commanding Officer (April 2012 - October 2012)
CDR Davis was the Commanding Officer in USS RENTZ (FFG-46).
He graduated from Middleburg High School in Middleburg FL in 1988 and subsequently enlisted in the United States Navy. Completing Basic Training, MM class "A" school and Basic Enlisted Submarine School; he was assigned to USS MINNEAPOLIS ST-PAUL (SSN-708) where he completed qualifications in submarines and several deployments in support of national tasking and Operation Desert Storm. After completing his tour, he was transferred to TRIDENT TRAINING FACILITY as an instructor in hydraulics, refrigeration and diesel engine mechanics. In the 9 months assigned, he was selected for commissioning under the Seaman to Admiral Program.
Following graduation from Officer Candidate School, CDR Davis attended the Surface Warfare Officer School, Division Officer Course at Newport, Rhode Island. His initial assignment was as Communications Officer in USS AUBREY FITCH (FFG 34) stationed at Mayport, FL. During his tour, CDR Davis deployed to the EUCOM and SOUTHCOM AORs in support of NATO exercises and counter-drug operations.
In the summer of 1996, CDR Davis attended the Aegis training pipeline and was assigned as Assistant Operations Officer in USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG-51). CDR Davis completed a deployment to the SOUTHCOM AOR for counter-drug operations.
In September of 1999, CDR Davis transferred to Jacksonville University, where he was assigned as a student. Completing the requirements for a Baccalaureate Degree within 2 ½ years, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Computer Information Systems in the summer of 2002.
Following graduation, CDR Davis attended Surface Warfare Officer Department Head course in Newport, Rhode Island and was assigned as the Operations Officer in USS O'BANNON (DD 987). He completed deployments to the SOUTHCOM AOR in support of counter-drug operations, and the UNITAS 03, PANAMAX 03, and SIFOREX 03 exercises.
Upon transfer, CDR Davis was assigned as the Executive Officer in USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6), completing deployments to Third Fleet in support of USNORTHCOM homeland defense exercises and to the SOUTHCOM AOR for PANAMAX 05.
Transferred to the Naval War College, CDR Davis completed a Masters degree in National Security Strategy and Policy while simultaneously completing the Navy's advanced war fighting school, the Naval Operational Planner Course (NOPC).
CDR Davis most recently served as the plan lead for OPLAN 8010 Appendix 3, assigned to the Plans Division, J5 Plans and Policy Directorate, United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
CDR Davis' personal awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (6 Awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation and various other service and unit awards.
