Reporting Information for orders to Thach:

WHERE TO REPORT: Upon arrival in San Diego, report to USS THACH (FFG 43) located at 32nd Street, Naval Station. All personnel should report in the Uniform of the Day. Contact the ship well in advance of your arrival, as this will allow us to plan for your arrival. Communicate early, particularly if you are reporting after normal working hours or on weekends and holidays, to ensure a smooth check-in. Personnel who arrive whie the ship is underway will report to the Transient Personnel Unit (TPU).

SHIP'S INFORMATION: Fleet Support Office San Diego maintains the Ships Information Office for San Diego harbor and provides information on arrivals, departures, locations, phone numbers and mailing addresses for all ships. The office is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays, or phone (619) 556-3123.

DRIVING/FLYING INTO SAN DIEGO: San Diego, like any other large city in the United States, offers a variety of transportation from the airport. Please give your sponsor your flight information and we will meet you at the airport. Commercial taxi cost to 32nd Street Naval Station is about $15.00 - $20.00. Be sure to get a receipt for your travel claim. If you plan on driving, there are several routes into San Diego: Interstate 8 from the east, Interstate 5 from the north and Interstate 15 from the northeast.From I-8 west, take I-15 south to Harbor Blvd, which will lead you straight to 32nd Street and into Gate 6 (main gate). From I-5 south, take 28th Street west, exit and turn left onto Main Street, then right onto 32nd Street and into Gate 6.

SHIP ORIENTATION: THACH conducts indoctrination training monthly for all newly reporting personnel.

LEAVE: All leave is granted per THACH leave policies. Emergency leave situations require American Red Cross verification and are at the discretion of the ship. Contact us as soon as possible if you anticipate any situation might delay your reporting.

PARKING: Parking is limited on the "Forces Afloat" side (west of Harbor Blvd) at Naval Station, San Diego. If your vehicle is illegally parked it could be towed, resulting in a $60.00 impound fee to retrieve it.

GETTING AROUND IN SAN DIEGO: There is ample public transportation in the San Diego area. Bus and taxi service is available almost around the clock, as well as a comprehensive San Diego Trolley system that runs to the base. A base shuttle is available and stops at all points of interest on the naval base, including piers, exchanges, PSD, Barracks, clubs and Fitness Centers.
