The purpose of this site is to provide new crewmembers, families and friends information about USS McCLUSKY (FFG 41). If you have any comments or questions about this site or the USS McCLUSKY, please e-mail them to our Command Master Chief (CMC@ffg41.navy.mil).
USS McCLUSKY is homeported in San Diego, CA. Called "America's Finest City," San Diego offers tremendous opportunities for sailors and their families. When you check into the area, unless you plan to live onboard, be forewarned that San Diego is an expensive area in which to live. Stop by or contact the Military Family Housing Office to either apply for military housing or learn more about off-base housing. They are located at 2625 LeHardy St, Naval Station, San Diego, CA 92136. Their phone number is (619) 556-8443 (DSN 526). Please note, once you are in receipt of official orders, you can submit an application for military housing in San Diego. There can be up to a two-year wait on the housing list depending on the priority that you are assigned, so apply as soon as possible.

You also will need to contact the Personal Property Office to arrange for delivery of your household goods. Their phone number is (619) 556-6683 (DSN 526) Please consider holding onto your boxes and wrapping material after you unpack and notify the Personal Property Office. They will pass on your name and phone number to sailors that are doing a "Do It Yourself" or DITY move. This is a great opportunity to help a shipmate save time and money by recycling this material.
If you have not received a Welcome Aboard letter or message within a month prior to reporting onboard, please contact our Admin Office immediately. I am taking advantage of this website to include a couple of documents that would otherwise take up a lot of space in our Welcome Aboard package that we mail out to you. My Command Philosophy is fundamental in how I do business. Please take the time to read these documents before you report onboard.
You will find your tour on USS McCLUSKY to be exciting, challenging and professionally rewarding. I think you will also find plenty of opportunities to have some FUN! But it will take a lot of work on your part. It is my responsibility to ensure USS McCLUSKY is prepared to conduct sustained combat operations. I cannot do this by myself. I need your skills, knowledge, and energy to accomplish our mission.
I strongly recommend each sailor, married or not, take advantage of the variety of programs offered by the Family Service Center, (619) 532-4305 and the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center, (619) 532-1501). These programs cover a wide variety of services, that range from assistance with child care, job search, indoctrination for a new spouse into the Navy, and family and marriage counseling, to discounts on local movies, theme parks, and just about every sporting event in the area. These services are designed to help you and your family get the most out of your assignment in the San Diego area.
You can expect to spend a fair amount of time underway after you report onboard. Please ensure that you have established financial arrangements as well as medical and dental care for your families before we go to sea. The BAH rate for San Diego area, as well as a pleathora of other information concerning pay and allowances, can be found at the Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS) Website. Concerning medical care, service members and their families are provided medical coverage as part of the Department of Defense TRICARE program. As an active duty service member, you are automatically enrolled in TRICARE Prime. However, you must enroll your spouse and other family members in either TRICARE Prime, Extra or Standard program. Dental coverage for active duty personnel is provided at military dental clinics in the area. Dental care for spouses and families of active duty members is provided under a contract with a private health care agency. United Concordia is assigned as the national provider for dental care for service member's families.
