Hailing from Spotswood, NJ, Commander Murzban “Murz” Morris received his Navy commission following graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1995, with a B.S. in Chemistry.
At sea, his initial tour was as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer aboard USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60). Following his tour on PAUL HAMILTON, CDR Morris became the Operations Officer aboard USS SQUALL (PC 7). After attending Department Head School in Newport, R.I., CDR Morris reported as the Operations Officer aboard USS JOHN S MCCAIN (DDG 56), forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. CDR Morris then shifted theaters and became the Operations Officer for Destroyer Squadron 60 stationed out of Gaeta, Italy.
Ashore, Commander Morris attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He received a M.A. in National Security Affairs (South/Southeast Asia Specialty) in 2002. In June 2006, CDR Morris reported to Commander Naval Surface Forces as the Combat Systems Officer (N65). In MAR 2008 he was selected for an IA tour to Iraq. After five months of training in Fort Bragg, N.C. at the Army Civil Affairs Command, CDR Morris reported to Baghdad. There he served as the LNO from Multi-National Corps- Iraq (MNC-I) to the Office of Provincial Affairs (OPA), overseeing and coordinating activities of the Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) with Coalition Force (CF) assets.
CDR Morris reported as the Executive Officer aboard USS MCCLUSKY (FFG 41) in July 2010.
His decorations and awards include the Bronze Star, Navy Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal and various campaign and unit decorations.
Commander Morris assumed duties as Commanding Officer of USS McCLUSKY (FFG 41) on 22 May 2012.
