COMREL at C.B. Estado de Minesota
Panama - USS Curts participated in a community relations project at C.B. Estado de Minesota, an elementary school near Vasco Nunez de Balboa Naval Base in Panama, with a student body of approximately 300 students divided into morning and afternoon sessions.
Volunteers from CURTS conducted repairs and restored essential services during the afternoon class sessions, fixing discrepancies and improving the learning environment for the children. Crew members replaced and/or restored faucets, lights, cafeteria stoves, ceiling tiles, ceiling fans, school chairs, soccer goals, basketball court backboards and air conditioners.
The children did not hesitate showing their elation and appreciation for the group of sailors repairing their recreational equipment. The faculty was appreciative of the overall improvement to the school’s environment.
In two days of work, CURTS Sailors built relationships and gained several new fans of .38 Special.
The Sailors and the students took group photos and several students brought pens and paper to receive autographs from the Sailors. Many volunteers expressed joy in putting smiles on the young children’s faces and exclaimed that it felt great to make a difference in a child’s life.
