Master Chief Samuel J Bernhardt is a native of Cassville, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Navy in 1991 and attended boot camp in Orlando Florida. Follow-on training includes Engineman “A” school and several advanced engineman diesel main propulsion courses to include Senior Propulsion Engineering Course in Great Lakes, Illinois. He is also a graduate of diesel engine electronic governor repair and installation course held in Ft Collins, Colorado.
He is a graduate of U.S Navy Senior Enlisted Academy class 162 as well as Command Leadership School class 99 held in Newport, Rhode Island.
His shore duty assignments include Shore Intermediate Activity Ingelside, Texas; Navy Operational support Center Rock Island Illinois; Navy Operational Support Center Chicago, Illinois, and Navy Operational Support Center Denver Colorado.
His sea duty assignments include USS RACINE (LST-1191) Long Beach, California; USS DONALD B. BEARY (FF-1085) New York, New York; USS FREDERICK (LST-1185) Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and USS KLAKRING (FFG-42) Mayport, Florida.
CMDCM (SW) Bernhardt is qualified to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare insignia. His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy Achievement Medal, Battle Efficiency “E” (two awards) and various other unit, service, and campaign awards.
He currently stationed onboard USS CURTS (FFG-38) as Command Master Chief.
