LCDR Mike Reed enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1988, and attained the rank of Petty Officer First Class. His enlisted assignments were aboard the USS VINCENNES (CG 49) from 1988-1995 as an Operations Specialist. He was selected for commissioning through the Seaman to Admiral program and attended Officer Candidate School in Pensacola Florida. He was commissioned on 7 June 1996.
His sea duty assignments were the USS RAINIER (AOE 7) from 1997-1999, where he served as the CIC and Operations Officer, then Electrical and Fuels Officer. In 1999 he reported aboard the USS ANTIETAM (CG-54) where he served as the Fire Control Officer. From 2005-2008 he completed his two Department Head assignments onboard USS MILIUS (DDG 69) where he served as the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer.
His shore duty assignments were at the University of San Diego’s ROTC Unit, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science, in 2004; and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, where he earned a Masters in History and completed JPME 1 in 2009.
LCDR Reed’s personal decorations include: Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards); Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards); Good Conduct Medal (2 awards); Sea Service Ribbon (10 awards), and numerous Campaign and Unit awards.
