CDR Pezzato was raised in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey. After serving as an enlisted submarine Nuclear Electronics Technician for three years, he was awarded a four-year NROTC scholarship to attend the University of San Diego where he graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry and received his commission in 1996.
His first tours of duty were aboard USS JUNEAU (LPD-10), where he served as Electrical Officer and then aboard USS LASALLE (AGF-3), where he served as Navigator and Administrative Officer. In August 2001, CDR Pezzato reported to Joint Task Force Southwest Asia in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where he served as Staff Tomahawk Planner for the Joint Forces Air Component Commander during Operations Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom. In March 2002, CDR reported to the Personnel Exchange Program in Toulon, France, where he served as an exchange officer on FS FOUDRE (TCD-9011). He completed an eighteen month tour as Assistant Operations Officer and deployed to West Africa in support of French contingency operations in Ivory Coast.
In August 2004, CDR Pezzato reported to USS COMSTOCK (LSD-45) and served an eighteen month tour as Operations Officer followed by an eighteen month tour aboard USS PELELIU (LHA-5) as Training Officer. In October 2007, CDR Pezzato reported to Expeditionary Strike Group Three and served as Contingency and Exercise Planner. In June 2009, CDR Pezzato was selected to attend the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, KS. While assigned to CGSC, he completed Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I) and a Master’s Degree in Procurement and Acquisitions Management from Webster University. In October 2010, CDR Pezzato reported to USS JARRETT (FFG 33) and served as Executive Officer until her decommissioning in May 2011.
CDR Pezzato’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
