A native of Miami, FL, Commander Johns graduated from Villanova University in 1994 and was commissioned an Ensign through the NROTC program.
At sea, Commander Johns served as Boilers and Main Propulsion Officer in USS FORT FISHER (LSD 40); as Ordnance Officer in USS SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON (FFG 13); Operations Officer in USS DEYO (DD 989); Operations Officer on the staff of Destroyer Squadron EIGHTEEN; Executive Officer in USS HOPPER (DDG 70); and Chief Staff Officer on the staff of Destroyer Squadron THREE ONE.
Ashore, Commander Johns earned a Master of Science Degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He served as Operations Officer on the staff of Regional Support Organization Norfolk and as Deputy Executive Assistant to the Chief of Navy Reserve.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal.
