Command Master Chief
Master Chief Robertson is a Houston, Texas native and graduated from Aldine High School before joining the Navy August 1988.
He began his naval career in San Diego, completing Recruit Training and Radioman “A” School. He then headed off to his first duty assignment at Commander, Carrier Strike Group Four, from March 1989 – August 1993.
His next assignment was at Naval Communications Area Master Station, Honolulu, Hawaii as a DSCS Satellite Operator. In March 1997, he reported to PCU DECATUR (DDG 73) in San Diego, CA. The ship was commissioned in Portland, Oregon in August 1998. While aboard USS DECATUR, he completed a Western Pacific deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
Master Chief Robertson then returned to the Hawaiian Islands and served with Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific (ATG MIDPAC). During his tenure there, he was certified as a Master Training Specialist (MTS) and selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
In July 2004, Master Chief Robertson reported to Commander, Destroyer Squadron THIRTY-ONE (CD S31) as the communication officer. During his tour, he completed a world cruise aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) and was advanced to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
He attended the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 134) “Gray” in July 2007, was selected for the Command Master/Senior Chief program. He then completed the CMC/COB Course (Class 62) prior to a tour at the Surface Warfare Officer School Command (SWOS) Newport, Rhode Island.
Master Chief Robertson assumed duties as Command Senior Chief aboard USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG 48) in August 2009. As Command Senior Chief, he completed two deployments to the Western Pacific and was selected to Master Chief Petty Officer in July 2012.
In May 2013, he reported to USS SAN DEIGO (LPD 22) as a Command Master Chief. He led a newly commissioned ship through their first Basic Phase Cycle, which achieved superior results earning two consecutive Command Retention Excellence and Battle “E” Awards, and successfully completed a Maiden Deployment from July 2014 to February 2015. Master Chief Robertson reported to USS AMERICA (LHA 6) April 3, 2015 as the ship’s second Command Master Chief. In two years AMERICA has achieved superior results on all certifications in the ship’s first ever Intermediate Basic Phase Training Cycle earning its first Battle “E” and Captain Edward F. Ney Memorial Award in its first year of eligibility, its 4th consecutive Command Retention Excellence Award and the Thompson Ravits Media Award for Public Affairs Excellence.
Master Chief Robertson's awards include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), and numerous campaign medals and unit citations. He is also entitled to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare, Aviation Warfare, and Information Warfare Insignia’s.
