|Colonel Scott T. Carhart
Deputy Commander (January 2011 - November 2012)
Colonel Carhart is currently Deputy Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group 3, San Diego, CA. He is a native of Long Beach, CA (1962) and raised in Ithaca, NY. He attended Cornell University on a Navy ROTC scholarship and graduated with a degree in Economics (1984). After completing Officer Candidate School (1983) and The Basic School (1984), he attended Naval Flight School where he was designated a Naval Aviator (1986).
Colonel Carhart’s combat experience includes a deployment to Saudi Arabia (1991) with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 161 where he flew over 20 combat sorties in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and a deployment to Iraq (2004) with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 764 where he flew over 150 combat sorties in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Throughout his career, he has accumulated over 4,000 mishap-free flight hours.
Operational assignments have included billets as Aviation Safety Officer, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 161 (HMM-161), Tustin, CA (1987-1991); Assistant Operations Officer, Training Squadron Six (VT-6), Whiting Field, FL (1993-1996); Operations Officer, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron764 (HMM-764), Edwards AFB, CA (1999-2004); Executive Officer/Operations Officer, Marine Aircraft Group 46 (MAG-46), MCAS Miramar, CA (2004-2008); Marine Liaison Officer, Marine Corps Combined Forces Air Component Command Liaison and Augmentation Team (MCCLAT), 4th Marine Aircraft Wing (4th MAW), New Orleans, LA (2008-2009); Marine Liaison Officer, Aviation Command and Control Team (AC2T), 4th Marine Aircraft Wing (4th MAW), Great Lakes Naval Base, IL (2009-2010).
Operational unit assignments have included a tour as Forward Air Controller, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Camp Pendleton, CA (1991-1993).
His professional education includes Amphibious Warfare School; Aviation Safety Officer School; Tactical Air Control Party School; USAF Joint Air and Space Senior Staff Course; and USN Joint Forces Air Component Command Course.
Colonel Carhart was advanced to his present grade on May 1, 2008. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike Flight 5), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal.
