CMDCM(SW/AW) Joey Thomas
Command Master Chief

A native of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Command Master Chief Thomas enlisted in the Navy in July 1988 and served as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate prior to his selection as Command Master Chief. His tours of duty include VAW-126 NAS Norfolk, VAW-110 NAS Miramar, Blue Angels, VAW-115 Atsugi Japan, VAW-113 Point Mugu, CA. NATTC Pensacola, USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) and VFA-195 Atsugi Japan.

While assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 195, he was selected into the Command Senior Chief Program. In May 2012, he reported to Commander Destroyer Squadron FIVE ZERO where he was promoted to Master Chief and selected into the Command Master Chief program. In April 2014, he assumed his present duties as Command Master Chief for the USS HALSEY (DDG 97).

Command Master Chief Thomas is a graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 165) and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 100).

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
