CDR Jason Tumlinson
Commander Tumlinson entered the Navy in 1987. Following enlisted assignments which included tours in five ships and an aircraft squadron, he was commissioned under the Limited Duty Officer program in 2001.
Afloat, Commander Tumlinson served in USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43) as Ship’s Boatswain and USS ESSEX (LHD 2) as First Lieutenant completing over four years forward deployed from Sasebo, Japan. He was then assigned to Naval Beach Group Two as Detachment Officer in Charge assigned to BATAAN Expeditionary Strike Group. Additional Department Head assignments include Operations Officer in USS COLE (DDG 67) and Amphibious Squadron FOUR Operations Officer embarked in USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3). During sea tours, he deployed numerous times to 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Unified Assistance, Ocean Shield, Odyssey Dawn, and Unified Protector.
Ashore, CDR Tumlinson completed assignments at the Surface Warfare Officers School as Fleet Training (N72) lead instructor and U.S. Pacific Fleet as the Current Operations Expeditionary Warfare Officer and Operational Planner.
CDR Tumlinson holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies from the University of Maryland, a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and is a graduate of the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School. Personal decorations include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal (nine awards), Navy and Marine Achievement Medal (six awards) and multiple campaign, service, and unit awards.
