Commander Sheldon graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering and he holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.

Afloat, Commander Sheldon completed his division officer tours aboard the frigate USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61) as the Communications Officer and Damage Control Assistant then aboard USS SACRAMENTO (AOE 1) as the Navigator. He completed his department head tour aboard the destroyer USS HOPPER (DDG 70) as the Engineering Officer. After completing his tour on HOPPER, he reported to USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6) as the Executive Officer. Commander Sheldon had the privilege to command USS SCOUT (MCM 8), USS SENTRY (MCM 3), and USS CHAMPION (MCM 4). During his sea tours he has made 5 deployments to the Western Pacific and the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Ashore, Commander Sheldon has served on the staff of the Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy and as an instructor in the Command at Sea Department (N75) at the Surface Warfare Officers School.

Commander Sheldon’s personal awards include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with four Gold Stars) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with two Gold Stars) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
