Commander Justin Orlich is a native of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and graduated With Merit from the United States Naval Academy in 1995 earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.

His first sea duty assignment was aboard USS CHOSIN (CG 65) as Communications Officer followed by a tour aboard USS FLETCHER (DD 992) as Combat Information Center Officer and the Operations Officer.  He later served as a first tour Department Head aboard USS HOPPER (DDG 70) as Operations Officer.  His second Department Head tour was as the N3 on the Staff of Destroyer Squadron FIFTY, based in Manama, Bahrain.  While at DESRON FIFTY he managed a myriad of operations throughout the C5F AOR, including the protection of the Iraqi Oil Platforms in the Northern Arabian Gulf, training of the Iraqi Navy, and anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia. CDR Orlich began his tour on CHUNG-HOON as Executive Officer in April 2010.

He earned a Masters of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.  He is a graduate of collège interarmées de défense (CID), the French Staff College, in Paris, France where he completed his Joint Professional Military Education Phase I training.

CDR Orlich’s shore assignment was with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operation’s Staff in Washington, DC as the Naval Integrated Fire Control - Counter Air (NIFC-CA) Requirements Officer.

His awards and decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals, and various other personal, unit, and campaign awards.
