CDR Jason Kipp
Commanding Officer

Commander Jason Kipp was born in Port Huron, Mich., and joined the Navy as an Electronics Technician in 1992. After completing Nuclear Prototype Training he was selected for a Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship and was commissioned in May 1998.

His sea assignments include Strike Officer in USS PAUL F. FOSTER (DD 964), Combat Information Center Officer in USS PORTLAND (LSD 37), and Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96). He has deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of UN Security Council Resolutions and Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. He has also deployed in support of Standing NATO Maritime Group 1, Operation Active Endeavor, UNITAS, and counter-piracy operations.

Ashore, he served as the Test and Evaluation Officer for the Littoral Combat Ship Mission Modules in the Program Executive Office (PEO) Littoral Combat Ship (PMS420), Assistant Program Manager for Surface Ship Torpedo Defense in PEO Submarines (PMS415), FFG Modernization Manager and the Ship Program Manager’s Strike Group Interoperability Officer for all in-service ships in PEO Ships (PMS400F and PMS470).

His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass. and a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia. He is also a graduate of the United States Naval War College Fleet Seminar Program.

Kipp is a recipient of various awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as the Battle "E" and other campaign and sea service awards.
